A Recipe for Healing
Cross, Stripes, & Child-Like Faith

Within the first few months after I got filled with the Holy Spirit and my life with the Lord took off like a rocket (1991-1992), the Holy Spirit taught me about the miracle of healing. He taught me through my son and the Bible.

My son used to suffer from leg cramps, also known as growing pains. I am familiar with the pain, because as a child I used to suffer from them as well. I remember crying for hours, while my mother would massage my legs. Nothing took away the pain. If you suffer from muscle ache, you can relax your muscles and most or all the pain will go away. That's not true with leg cramps. It’s a constant pain.

After years of suffering, my aunt recommended that I take some form of painkiller - aspirin - the next time it occurred. Well, we took her advice and it worked. So, when my son lay awake crying because he had leg cramps, I immediately went into the kitchen, crushed up an aspirin, and mixed it into a glass of juice. After one sip of that nasty tasting concoction, he refused to drink anymore. I begged him, explaining that it was the only way to get rid of the pain.

I was just about to lose my cool, because my son was still crying and refusing to drink the medicine, when my Christian friend entered the room and asked me to leave the room. “Why?” I asked. He said that he was going to pray for my son. I thought, "Good idea," but my head said, "The only thing that will take away leg cramps is painkiller." A few minutes later, my friend exited the room and we never heard another peep out of my son. I was surprised and amazed.

Shortly after that night, my friend, my son, and I were driving somewhere. My stomach was in painful knots. My friend began to pray for me. My son, from the backseat, was rooting him on saying, "It works, Mom, it really works! Is the pain gone?" I told him yes even though it was a lie. I didn’t want to harm my son's faith.

The Lord began to reveal, through His word, the truth behind what we were experiencing. Jesus said, …"Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. " (Matthew 18:3)"Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." (Mark 10:15) & (Luke 18:17) The Lord showed me that with child-like faith my son received the healing from leg cramps. My friend told him that Jesus was going to take away the pain. My son didn’t think about it logically or try to use reasoning why that could or couldn't be possible. He just believed and he expected that what my friend had told him was true. And Violá! His leg cramps were healed.

Then the Lord deposited "spirit knowledge" not just "head knowledge" of another scripture.

Jesus said…"which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say, 'Arise, take up your bed and walk'? But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins"--He said to the paralytic, "I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house." Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!" (Mark 2;9-12)

Jesus made a parallel comparison between healing and forgiveness of sin. We all have faith to believe that our sins are forgiven, when we receive the Lord, because we can't see, touch, taste, smell, or feel sin or the result from forgiveness of sin. We have to believe that they are washed clean by faith because that is what the Bible says. So why do we disbelieve the Bible when it says,…But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed? (Isaiah 53:5) Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness--by whose stripes you were healed. (1 Peter 2:24)

I know why it is hard for us to believe! Because we can feel, smell, touch, taste, and see sickness. We trust in our senses more than we believe the Word of God. But we need to respond with child-like faith (without reasoning or being logical) about the truth. We were healed at the same time and with the same power and authority that forgave our sins.

I saw the result of child-like faith in my son. Every time he gets sick or hurt, I pray for him and he is healed! I am telling you the truth. My son will tell you the same thing. I started exercising child-like faith in God's word concerning healing for myself. When I felt a cold coming on I would start to pray. I would quote scriptures about healing and take my focus off from the symptoms and put my focus on believing and trusting God's word. God's word is true. The symptoms are a lie because they contradict God's word, which is true. You know what? The symptoms always bow their knee to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and the truth of God's word.

The Lord has given us a perfect redemption -- body, soul, and spirit. We were healed by His stripes (body), The chastisement for our peace was upon Him (soul - mind will and emotions). And He was wounded for our transgressions (spirit). He restored us fully!

Recently, I heard a man, David Moore, preach the best message I have ever heard about healing. One of the most powerful and convicting things he said was (my paraphrase) Questioning if it is truly the Lord's desire that you be healed is like walking up to Jesus as He is being scourged, His flesh being ripped apart with the cat of nine tails (whip) to ask Him, "Lord, do you really want me to be healed?" It would be the same as if you were to walk up to Jesus hanging on the cross to ask, "Are You sure that You want me to be saved and forgiven for my sins?"
