Tropical Storm Alpha –
God is our Alpha, our Altogether!
By Kris Belfils - http://www.krisbelfils.com

As I watch the news of Hurricane Wilma, and saw a new storm in the Atlantic Ocean; Tropical Storm “Alpha.” There have been so many hurricanes this 2005 hurricane season that they ran out of names and had to start using Greek names. It is interesting that the name “Alpha” was used. The significance of the name, “Alpha,” is very important in our lives. Immediately in my spirit I heard the Lord say, “I Am the Alpha and the Omega,” “The First and the Last.” I asked God to show me more. As I thought of the word, “Alpha,” or the word “first,” Scriptures with the word, “first” came to mind.

Matthew 6:33 (Amplified Bible)
“But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.”

I believe God is reminding us with Alpha that we have to keep Him first in our lives. So many things demand our attention, that we may neglect the most important person, our Alpha!

The more I studied the word Alpha in the Bible, the more I was getting excited about what it really meant. Another word for Alpha, that the Strong’s Hebrew and Greek dictionary brings out is, “altogether.” Our Alpha is altogether everything for us. We need to get a hold of this awesome thought. We hear it all the time, and may even sing a current worship song about how altogether lovely God is, but do we really see His beauty? Do we really know God as our Altogether? Everything that He is fulfills everything that we need. He is our portion. God should be the first place we turn for guidance, help, comfort, and anything else we may need. God is our Alpha, our first, and our altogether!

God is, and should always be, our first love. As we seek God first, and His will, we will see His faithfulness. We will learn more about His character and how His character proves that He is altogether lovely. We can love our family and friends, but the love we have for our First Love, should far outweigh our love for anyone else in our lives. Not to ignore others, but to place God first and make Him our Alpha.

Here are a few more scriptures about God being our Alpha, or our First!

Revelation 1:8 (Amplified Bible)
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, says the Lord God, He Who is and Who was and Who is to come, the Almighty (the Ruler of all).

Revelation 1:10b – 11a (Amplified Bible)
“…I heard behind me a great voice like the calling of the war trumpet. Saying, I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last…”

Revelation 1:17b (Amplified Bible)
“…Do not be afraid! I am the First and the Last.”

Revelation 21:6 (Amplified Bible)
“And He [further] said to me, It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I [Myself] will give water without price from the fountain (springs) of the water of Life.

Revelation 22:13 (Amplified Bible)
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last (the Before all and the End of all).

God is our “Before” and He is our “End!” He has already gone Before you to prepare the way for you to obtain your destiny. Remember that God is a God Who completes! He never brings you so far and drops you to fend for yourself. God brings your life to completion because He is your “End” as well. It is God who calls forth the beginning of things and it is God who calls forth the end of things. You might find yourself at what seems like a dead end. You may have been demoted, but God doesn’t see it that way. God is the final say of what you become, not man. When we look at Joseph, one could say he was demoted when he was thrown into the pit, but from God’s point of view, it was the first step in His promotion.

God is your Alpha and Omega, your First and your Last. He is the Beginning and the End. Put Him first in your life! Seek Him first above all relationships and above all things. Love God first, because He is your First Love. He is the First place you turn to when you are in trouble. He is the First One you will seek in good and bad times. He is First on your heart to share your joys and sorrows. He is your First and best friend. He is your First lover. He is your only Savior! He is your provider and sustainer. You can cry to your Alpha first and receive Him Altogether. You have eyes for only Him and no other! He is your protection. He is your Beginning and He will complete what He’s started in you, because He completes everything He starts. He is your End. He decides when things are finished; not man. God is a God who takes the clay and starts over. He brings brokenness. Your Alpha takes the broken pieces of your life and pours His Living Water into you to moisten your clayish heart. He will reform and remold you into a new vessel useful for Him. Thank Him for His Living Water that flows in you to flow to others. He is your Altogether!
